The Difference between Cruise Line Options

With so many cruise lines on the market, it can be quite overwhelming trying to distinguish the difference between them. Whether you are liking the look of the Vision of the Seas liner, from the Royal Caribbean line, or you are favouring a family friendly P&O liner, knowing the difference between them all can be a sure-fire way to choosing the best one to suit your needs. It’s difficult to know which would suit your itinerary plans and, of course, the budget; with clearly defined categories, the choice can be significantly easier.

Basic
These mass-market, resort cruises provide an experience that can be described as a floating resort. Plenty of things to do, huge capacities and smaller cabins are common attributes, with as many as 3000+ passengers on board. Service is good, food is plentiful and activities are in abundance. These ships tend to have multiple pools, climbing walls, skating rings and a plethora of bars, lounges and discos.
Lines include Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean, to name a few.

Premium
While premium cruises provide many of the same amenities as the basic lines, their services tend to be much better. Ships tend to hold between 500 and 1500 passengers, meaning less crowding and shorter queues, while cabins are usually a little roomier. Their facilities won’t be quite as child-friendly, although children are usually still welcome aboard.
Lines include Celebrity, Holland America and Princess.

Luxury
Luxury cruises offer the most prestigious of service that is personalised to you. Decor is elegant, food is gourmet and cabins tend to have balconies. With vessels carrying between 100 and 1000 people, there’s far more room available and activities are refined and of an exacting high standard. Destinations tend to be more exotic and amenities are of a very high quality.
Lines include Silversea, Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas.

Take your pick from the various cruises available and be safe in the knowledge that you chose the best line to suit you.
