I haven't been to a city that takes weekend brunch as seriously as Dubai. Here, the breakfast-lunch merge is such an institution. Extra-special buffet is laid out. Bubbly is overflowing. People dress to the nines!
Brunch is offered in almost every hotel in town. Each, being far from the ordinary, has its own style and concept. And last weekend, Ed and I have experienced a very interesting one at Movenpick Hotel Bur Dubai. The hotel takes the famous Dubai Friday Brunch to a whole new level by serving an artistic brunch buffet where food meets art! And they cleverly call it The Art of Brunch!

Ed and I arrived at Movenpick Hotel Bur Dubai a little past noon for The Art of Brunch. We were warmly ushered to our table at the Fountain restaurant. The atmosphere is classy yet very relaxed. Soothing live music filled the air. Buffet tables are scattered in the restaurant and in the naturally lighted hotel lobby.
The Art of Brunch is an International buffet brunch with a British touch; quite appropriate as brunching started in England in the late 1800s! A friendly staff introduced us to the extensive spread and gave us a menu with a list of "Fresh from the Kitchen" dishes. So, other than the feast arranged before our very eyes, we also had the option to devour a freshly prepared meal!

The spread looks impressive. And it's not just because of the extensive offerings, but because of the artsy arrangement. It's a feast of both the eyes and the palate.
Food items are artfully placed alongside framed paintings; so adorable that I had to contemplate on which item and in which portion should I take. Half of me didn't want to distort the beautiful presentation, while the other half wants to have a portion of everything! I must say, The Art of Brunch has the most photogenic buffet spread I have ever seen by far!

In the lobby, one table has an assortment of cheese, crackers and grape. The selections rightfully match the welcome bubbly given to every guest! Next to it is a live cooking station for grilled items and Japanese specialties. Behind it is a busy beverage counter serving cocktails and mixed drinks. And in a corner is The Kids Club; a supervised play area with face painting, movies and fun activities for the children.

Tucked in the main restaurant is a homey nook with an open kitchen. Charcuterie were arranged on top of the cupboards and the kitchen island brimmed with a lavish stater selection. Quite hidden on the side is the Pork Section serving roast pork with all the trimmings!

And then, there's the Dessert Section; the most tantalizing of them all! The selection has all sorts of International desserts - cakes, tarts, cupcakes, fruit slices! That table was overflowing with goodness and we were seated right behind it. So while having my appetizers and mains, I was already planning which desserts to devour! :)

Here's what I had at The Art of Brunch, plate by plate. I must share as they all look pretty up close! :) On the first plate were juicy slices of smoked duck, a prawn appetizer in a glass and a summer roll. Next, I had Japanese rolls and Chinese dim sum from the live cooking station.
Then, we ordered the Full Monty breakfast platter from the Fresh from the Kitchen menu. It's the ultimate English breakfast! It has a prime steak, eggs, pork sausage (chicken is also available), pork black pudding, baked beans, button mushrooms, fried bread, potatoes and grilled tomato.

Before desserts, I had a small portion of roasted pork with applesauce on the side which somehow eased my lechon craving. :) And lastly were four kinds for sweets from the artsy pile of desserts!
I'm in love with The Art of Brunch!
It is every inch charming. Artsy, but presented in such a way that both artists and non-art enthusiasts would adore. The service is commendable; extra-friendly, quick and very efficient! The buffet is extensive and the Fresh from the Kitchen option definitely is a plus point! It is excellent through and through, yet still nicely-priced!

I love those tea pots near the sushi station. I hope they sell them, too. Haha.
