I'm a huge fan of budget travel, but here's the catch - I'm not the one who's willing to compromise comfort and convenience. Being always after the value of money, I was thrilled when I heard about the launching of OYO Rooms in the UAE.
What is OYO?
OYO Rooms is actually not a newbie in the budget travel category. It originated in India in 2013 as a startup which aimed to standardize the services in budget hotels and guesthouses. It has become South Asia's largest hospitality group, and now it's being introduced to the world; one country at a time.
OYO Rooms in the UAE
OYO Rooms practically solved my dilemma whenever my family and friends come for a visit. Trusted hotels in Dubai are fairly expensive. Although I'm happy that we always get what we pay for, chances are, hotel stays can deplete limited travel fund in an instant! On the other hand, cheap accommodations in Dubai are quite sketchy. I'm always scared to recommend as the services could be sub-par and it would ruin an entire vacation. I honestly didn't see something in between until OYO Room came into the picture.
My OYO Rooms Experience in Dubai
It was during the Eid Holidays when my family and I experienced staying in an OYO Home for the first time. Booking the stay through the OYO App was easy. In addition to the affordable rate, a discount was offered when the promo code was applied. Do check out OYO app for the current discount code. Each OYO Home has an OYO Captain; a person to reach for inquiries on booking or even on sightseeing.
We stayed in a 2-bedroom OYO Home located in a high rise building in Jumeirah Lake Towers. Since it is a residential property, the check-in process is different from what is usually done in hotels. Copies of passports and Emirates ID were asked by email, not in the front desk. All I had to do was to sign in a logbook when we arrived, then the key to the unit was handed over. It was a smooth process.

The 2-bedroom OYO Home is exactly what I expected it to be. I hate bad surprises especially when it comes to accommodations, so I was happy to see that it resembles the photos posted in OYO App.
The unit is well-furnished, neat and tidy, and exudes that home away from home vibe. Toiletries, towels, coffee, tea, and bottled water (Lots of it!) were provided. The kitchen cupboards were a little worn out, but appliances were working fine (That's what matters most, I guess.) The bedrooms look cozy and well-lighted. No fluffy hotel-type mattresses and pillows, but yeah acceptable for a guest house.
A gym and a swimming pool are located on the topmost floor. We were not able to use it though as we preferred to visit the attractions nearby. Taking photos is also not allowed in the public areas as it is a residential building.
The next day, we asked our OYO Captain for a late check-out and it was granted. A cleaning lady came minutes before we left. It is good to know that the property is well taken care of and cleanliness is not compromised.
